Wells Dermatology Clinic announced on the 1st that it was selected as a Golden Record hospital at the 'Ulthera Golden Record Awards,' hosted last month by Merz Korea, a German aesthetics-specialized pharmaceutical company.
The Ulthera Golden Record Awards is a ceremony held as part of the Ulthera genuine product usage campaign, selecting major domestic hospitals that use genuine tips. This year marked the second consecutive year of the ceremony, following its inaugural edition last year.
Wells Dermatology Clinic explained that it has long recognized the importance of using genuine consumables in Ulthera treatments and has made efforts toward patient safety, including allowing patients to personally verify whether genuine tips are being used during procedures.
Ulthera is a procedure that uses High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) to deliver energy to the deepest fascial layer (SMAS) beneath the skin — a depth difficult to reach with conventional devices — producing a lifting effect. It has the advantage of creating thermal coagulation zones only at the target layer without damaging the skin surface or surrounding areas, thereby achieving a lifting effect.
An industry insider explained, "When there is excess facial fat or severe skin sagging, it is difficult to achieve a proper effect through simple elasticity improvement alone, and Ulthera plays a significant role in such cases," adding, "Among non-surgical methods for lifting sagging skin such as drooping cheeks or a double chin, Ulthera is effective." The insider further noted, "Although a surgical facelift produces a similar effect, the equipment itself is expensive and the consumables used in the procedure are also costly," and pointed out that "there have been problematic cases where some clinics illegally modify devices and tips, or present previously used recycled tips as genuine products."
Ulthera can occasionally cause side effects such as facial burns during treatment, and the use of illegal recycled tips is frequently cited as the cause. Experts therefore advise that patients should carefully verify whether a clinic uses genuine tips before undergoing the procedure, and that it is also important to assess the experience of the medical staff.
"When receiving Ulthera treatment, it is important to confirm that genuine tips approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (KFDA) are being used," said Dr. Choi Won-woo, Director of Well Dermatology Clinic. He emphasized, "Since the tips used in the procedure are single-use, using them more than once can reduce effectiveness and make safety difficult to guarantee, so patients must receive treatment at a clinic that uses genuine tips."
